Plenary Session on Biotech Ecosystem: Views from Key Opinion Leaders Highlights at #GlobalBioIndia2023: A Glimpse into the Future of Biotech Innovation

The 21st-century Science and Technology (S&T) innovation landscape is undergoing a transformative shift, transitioning from knowledge-based infrastructure to problem-solving mechanisms that impact millions of lives globally.

This pivotal evolution was underscored by Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, and Chairman of the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), during the Plenary Session at #GlobalBioIndia2023.

Mr. Gokhale highlighted the remarkable growth of bio-innovation and the bio-economy in India, advocating for unprecedented support to facilitate ecosystem transformation on a global scale. In his address, he emphasized the need for India to position its Research and Development (R&D) headquarters among the top 5 economies globally to become a leading innovator in the field.

"To become a top innovator, India must move its R&D headquarters into the top 5 economies," urged Rajesh Gokhale, highlighting the imperative shift for India's #Bioeconomy in the global landscape at #GlobalBioIndia2023.

Dr. Jitendra Kumar, Managing Director of BIRAC, provided insights into the essential components of the #Biotech ecosystem. He highlighted the collective role of academic research institutions, Biotech Parks, Incubation centers, funding avenues, and equipment suppliers in fostering holistic industry development. His comprehensive overview aimed to shed light on the interconnectedness of these components in shaping the future of biotech.

Aligning with the Prime Minister's vision of "Biovision for Bharat," Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, CMD of Biocon & Chairperson of ABLE, stressed the effective harnessing of technology for ecosystem development. Her visionary perspective emphasized the pivotal role technology plays in advancing the biotech sector and driving sustainable growth.

Sh. Ashok Chandra Panda, Hon'ble Cabinet Minister of S&T Department, Government of Orissa, brought attention to the untapped potential in the marine sector for biotech. He emphasized the importance of sustainability, showcasing how the marine sector could be a game-changer in the industry's future.

The Plenary Session at #GlobalBioIndia2023 provided a platform for key opinion leaders to share their insights and vision for the future of biotech innovation. The discussions underscored the need for collaborative efforts, sustainable practices, and leveraging technology to position India as a global leader in the biotech sector.
