In a significant development, a new international consensus report on precision medicine in diabetes prevention and care has been released in the renowned journal Nature Medicine.

Dr. Siew Lim, representing Australia's Monash University's Eastern Health Clinical School, played a key role as the co-senior lead in this groundbreaking report. This comprehensive report, supported by prominent organizations like the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), and the Novo Nordisk Foundation, was made possible through a collaborative effort that brought together 200 academic experts from 28 countries, operating under the banner of the Precision Medicine in Diabetes Initiative (PMDI).

The report, the second international consensus report on precision diabetes medicine, not only underscores the significant advancements in precision medicine for diabetes prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis but also underscores the crucial knowledge gaps that need attention. It demonstrates clear progress in implementing precision diabetes medicine and reveals immediate or near-term clinical applications, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of monogenic diabetes. Furthermore, precision medicine holds promise in the prevention of gestational diabetes, marking a significant step forward in diabetes care
