Vice President Hsiao met with the esteemed recipients of the "2024 Taiwan BIO Award" on October 15, applauding their exceptional contributions and dedication to advancing Taiwan's biotechnology sector. During the ceremony, she emphasized the government's continued commitment to supporting the biotech industry through various policies and initiatives, with the goal of strengthening Taiwan's position in the global biotechnology landscape and promoting public health.
In her speech, Vice President Hsiao expressed her honor in meeting the award-winning biotech companies and their representatives, acknowledging their accomplishments across diverse fields, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, research and development, agriculture, and health foods. She also thanked the Taiwan Bio Industry Organization for inviting her to the "BIO Asia–Taiwan" exhibition in July, which provided invaluable insights into Taiwan's biotech progress.
"The biotechnology industry plays a pivotal role in Taiwan's economic and public health future," said Vice President Hsiao. "Through continuous collaboration with industry leaders and scholars, as well as by attending key industry events, I have witnessed the tremendous strides Taiwan has made in this sector. The government's unwavering support through policy initiatives aims to further boost Taiwan's role in the global biotech community."
Vice President Hsiao highlighted the lessons learned from the global pandemic, which exposed the vulnerabilities of international supply chains and underscored the importance of a robust local biotechnology industry. She stressed that having a strong biotech sector is essential not only for meeting the needs of the people but also for ensuring the government's ability to safeguard public health.
The Vice President concluded by congratulating the 2024 Taiwan BIO Award winners for their cross-disciplinary achievements and encouraged continued efforts to drive the industry's growth, positioning Taiwan as a leader in global biotechnology innovation.
