Siemens Healthineers is pleased to announce the expansion of its Atellica Integrated Automation solution to the Atellica CI Analyzer, bringing advanced automation capabilities to clinical laboratories. This innovative solution consolidates 25 tasks that are traditionally performed manually by clinical lab professionals, reducing the manual workflow by up to 75% and allowing laboratories to increase efficiency, enhance quality, and better support their staff.
The Atellica Integrated Automation system incorporates sample management, decapping, and sealing functionality directly within the Atellica CI Analyzer. This unique integration makes high-performance automation accessible to smaller labs or those with limited space, previously only available to large-scale, high-volume laboratories. “Successful automation addresses the lab’s specific needs, while standardizing routine and repetitive tasks that safeguard quality and safety,” explained Sharon Bracken, Head of Diagnostics at Siemens Healthineers. “With the right customization and input from key stakeholders, automation can deliver faster, more accurate test results, respond flexibly to changing testing demands, and eliminate biohazards for staff, creating a better working environment.”
As patient testing volumes surge, and laboratory staffing shortages persist globally—estimated to be as high as 25% in some regions—laboratories are increasingly reliant on automation. With its Atellica Integrated Automation system, Siemens Healthineers offers a critical solution that acts as an “extra set of hands” for laboratory professionals, streamlining workflows and reducing turnaround times for patient samples.
A recent study revealed that 95% of lab professionals believe automation technology is essential to enhance patient care, and 89% see it as crucial to meet rising demand. Atellica Integrated Automation addresses these challenges, allowing a single technologist to efficiently handle tasks such as calibration, QC, daily sorting, and archiving in a fraction of the time traditionally required. This reallocation of resources empowers lab staff to focus on value-added activities, like quality control and employee mentoring.
By improving sample handling, Atellica Integrated Automation enables laboratories to achieve up to 65% faster turnaround times compared to competitor systems, enhancing patient care and reducing the need for outsourcing. Siemens Healthineers also offers track-based automation options that connect seamlessly to the Atellica Solution, providing adaptable solutions for laboratories with diverse testing volumes and needs.
“Regardless of volume, laboratory footprint, or location, laboratory staff deserve technology that can help them overcome growth limitations and improve patient care in their communities,” added Bracken.
