Picarro Inc., a global leader in gas monitoring, analytics, and services, has been selected by Advanced Sterilization Technology Inc. (AST) to deliver a groundbreaking solution for sterilization facilities to recycle and reuse ethylene oxide (EtO) while meeting and exceeding stringent emissions regulations.
At the core of this collaboration is AST’s BOAZ cryogenic abatement and reclamation system, which captures and converts gaseous EtO back into 100% liquid form, significantly reducing emissions and operating costs. Picarro’s ultra-sensitive emissions monitoring technology complements BOAZ by ensuring real-time regulatory compliance and providing unmatched accuracy in emissions tracking. Together, these technologies empower sterilization providers to minimize environmental impact while optimizing operational efficiency.
“Our patented BOAZ system has been successfully operating at four pallet sterilizers in Taiwan for over two years, demonstrating a 90% recovery of gaseous EtO. This results in substantial cost savings across capital equipment, daily operations, and overall emissions control,” said Denny Christensen, CEO of AST’s U.S. sales operations. “By integrating Picarro’s cutting-edge monitoring technology with BOAZ, we offer customers enhanced confidence in process optimization and compliance management.”
“As regulatory demands on EtO control, abatement, and monitoring continue to tighten under EPA NESHAP and FIFRA, the industry needs reliable, data-driven solutions,” said Dave Miller, Vice President of Picarro’s Environmental Solutions Business. “Through this collaboration, AST is driving much-needed innovation in EtO sterilization, giving providers a powerful and scalable solution to navigate emerging regulatory challenges.”
Picarro’s comprehensive EtO emissions management solutions allow sterilization providers to focus on their operations while ensuring compliance with evolving environmental standards.
By combining AST’s BOAZ technology with Picarro’s world-class monitoring solutions, sterilization facilities now have a highly efficient, regulatory-compliant, and cost-effective pathway to EtO recovery and emissions reduction. This collaboration represents a critical step toward a safer, more sustainable future for medical sterilization and industrial emissions management.
