TransCure bioServices, a unique fee-for-service Humanized Mouse Preclinical CRO, has announced two new additions to their workforce to further improve their already strong animal welfare policy. Dr Solenn Percelay, PhD will join the team as an Animal Welfare Scientist, and Dr Noémie Spinelli, DVM, as an on-site veterinarian, strengthening the organization’s commitment to their Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) accreditation.
AAALAC endorses the use of animals to advance medicine and science in situations where there are no non-animal alternatives, but the work must be carried out in an ethical and humane way. Accreditation by AAALAC is voluntary. To succeed, organizations must demonstrate they not only meet minimum lawful standards, but also strive for excellence in animal care and use. TransCure bioServices received accreditation in June 2022.
Dr Solenn Percelay will be a crucial source of animal welfare knowledge, conducting research to improve mouse welfare through studies such as the impact of enrichment on animal behavior and stress. Dr Noémie Spinelli will join the current team of veterinarians to oversee the health of the mice, and work with customers to detect any unexpected adverse drug reactions. Both roles are crucial to improving the health and wellbeing of the mice in TransCure bioServices’ top-of-the-range animal facilities.
“Good science cannot be done without maintaining a very high standard of ethics,” says Dr Sébastien Tabruyn, General Manager and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), TransCure bioServices. “In TransCure bioServices, we go beyond what is required by European regulations to make sure that our mice receive the highest possible care. We are thrilled that Solenn and Noémie are joining our team, as they share our vision for driving animal welfare. With their added support, our customers can be confident that they are working with partners that not only provide the cutting-edge models and technologies they need to advance their science, but who are also fully committed to animal ethics and wellbeing.”
