Agreements Signed, Boosting Hong Kong's Status as Healthcare Innovation Hub

 

 

The fourth Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the 15th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair) have concluded with great success, underscoring Hong Kong's growing prominence as a healthcare innovation hub. These flagship events attracted over 2,800 participants from 40 countries and regions to ASGH and more than 12,000 buyers from 60 countries and regions to the Medical Fair.

Key Highlights:

  • Over 360 deal-making sessions and 650 business matching meetings were organized to facilitate cross-sector collaboration.
  • Significant cooperation agreements were signed at ASGH, fostering collaboration in areas such as ophthalmology, gastrointestinal well-being, AI, and innovative drugs.

Healthcare Industry Leaders Gather in Hong Kong

As part of the third International Healthcare Week, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), global healthcare leaders, medical product and service traders, start-ups, and investors convened to discuss the latest developments and trends in the healthcare industry.

Dr. Peter K N Lam, Chairman of the HKTDC, stated, "Global health issues such as ageing populations, novel infectious diseases, and climate-related health threats have accelerated the need for innovation, collaboration, and inclusion. The Asia Summit on Global Health and the Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair have greatly contributed to advancing health and medical innovation and fostering vital industry exchange. Bringing together leading figures in healthcare-related industries in Hong Kong is a testament to our city’s position as a leading hub for medical innovation."

Healthcare Experts Discuss Trending Topics

The Summit featured over 80 experts, researchers, medical professionals, business leaders, investors, and healthcare industry representatives, engaging in discussions on a variety of forward-looking issues, including healthcare innovation, innovative drugs, China's healthcare development, healthcare investment prospects, and healthcare insurance.

Prof. Lo Chung-mau, Secretary for Health of the Hong Kong SAR, highlighted, “Hong Kong is on a road to reform its medical product registration and innovate biomedical research in the coming decade. With national endorsement and our policy innovations, along with the can-do spirit of our people, I am confident that Hong Kong will overcome all challenges and achieve its goal of developing into a health and medical innovation hub.”

Prof. Roger Kornberg, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 2006, emphasized the importance of financial support for research and creating opportunities for young scientists. He remarked, “The Hong Kong government has taken important steps recently, including a HK$6 billion investment in a research centre for fundamental studies.”

LiverCare Initiative

The LiverCare - Hong Kong 10 Million Liver Scans Program was launched, aiming to carry out 10 million early screening tests for liver disease to raise public awareness about prevention and treatment.

Business Connections and Matching at Medical Fair

The Medical Fair, co-organized by the HKTDC and the Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association (HKMHDIA), featured 300 exhibitors from eight countries and regions. Companies like Maxwin & Honwell Limited and VVFLY Electronics Co., Ltd. reported successful engagements, with significant potential orders and new partnerships formed.
